A Redeemed Sinner’s Creed
I believe in one true God, an Almighty Father, who created heaven and earth and all that is good. He is a God who moves mountains, calms seas, and transforms hearts of stone into hearts of flesh. He can re-create me into a better woman, too.
I believe His Son Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to Mary, a young virgin who said “yes” to God’s messenger. She rocked him when he cried, bandaged his owies, and encouraged him to get back up when he fell. Now her Son comforts me.
I believe Jesus matured into an adolescent who not only astounded teachers in the temple at Jerusalem but as an adult, allowed his cousin to baptize him in the Jordan River and then overcame temptations in the desert. Though skilled as a carpenter, he became a tender of sheep. He steers me tenderly toward the Light.
I believe this Good Shepherd recruited twelve missionary followers, performed miracles, and instructed thousands with simple stories to illustrate moral lessons. He preached love for all and taught us to pray and receive blessings. I love him with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.
I believe Jesus was more than a wise prophet, more than a humble minister, more than a patient counselor. During his last meal, he served, encouraged, and gave thanks before offering his Body and Blood to become a Sacrificial Lamb. Oh, that I may embody his wisdom, humility, and patience.
I believe Jesus suffered under a cowardly Judaean official, who had him scourged and sentenced to die on a cross between two thieves. He called upon his heavenly Father to forgive his persecutors and in so doing, converted one of those bandits, as well as a Centurian who pierced his side. Though I put nails in his body, he still forgives me.
I believe that a kind pharisee buried Jesus behind a rock, and three days after his murder and burial, He rose from the dead. Mary (not his mother, but one from Magdala), was the first to see the Gardener, and though bewildered, exploded with delight as she ran to tell her friends. I cannot keep from singing, for he is ALIVE!
I believe Jesus, the Giver of Peace, appeared to his companions and commissioned them to spread his gospel before he ascended to heaven to sit at his Father’s right hand. He breathed upon them the gift of the Holy Spirit and promised to be with them forever. May my life be a channel of peace and truth.
I believe in the Holy Spirit and the wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord that he bestows upon us. He is our Helper who endows us with the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. Come, Shalom Dove, and kindle in me a fire of your love.
I believe God’s love is steadfast, his blessings countless, and his mercy has no end. By the grace of the Messiah, I am saved. By the Holy Spirit, I am guided to eternal life.
How sweet the Grace that saved a wretch like me!
Amen
