Along the Road (a letter to myself, a wanderer)

Dear Pilgrim,

Chart the course of your day first thing in the morning, in the chamber of your soul. Praise the One who created you and gifted you the dawn. He will be with you when your eyes close again in the evening and throughout your slumber.

The Creator made the world for your delight, so watch for his blessings along the footpath, being especially mindful of incidentals He gifts throughout the day. As you continue, do not lose sight of Him. He is busy peppering the path with beauty so keep an eye out for wonder in the mundane and the sublime.

Do not fear the day’s trail, instead tell yourself, “I am a limited being, but the Master’s counsel is boundless, abundant, and inexhaustible.” Remember there is a purpose for you each day. Cry out to Him for guidance.

During the quest, seek to align your will with that of the Teacher so that you become more patient and compassionate. Ask Him to give you unclouded vision and a soft heart. Invite the power of his love to fill you so that you can love without expectations, without conditions.

Allow yourself to become so roused by His goodness that you can love even when you do not understand how love is possible. Love until it hurts because when you cultivate love, others will also feel the Shepherd’s unmerited favor. Believe that you can love beautifully, and completely.

Honor others with evidence of God’s mighty salvation and deny no one forgiveness. Develop a sacrificial spirit that makes you illuminate the darkness and radiate his brilliance to all. In failure, you may doubt, but never underestimate how the Light of the World can move in you!

If you lose your footing, stay on course, and remember The Way. Rest in the grace He has generously poured on you and step by step trust in God’s power. Walk with unwavering faith and you will persevere.

The Author of Life created precious you. He made you in his image so that you can share doses of Him with others. He designed you to love and gave you the capacity to show others that He cares for them, too.

Spread the Lord’s fragrance along the route, scatter seeds of peace, and sow tenderness, affection, and laughter. Plant a tree rooted in charity so that its branches spread joy. Yield fruits of goodness and kindness and you will generate holy moments.

Let the Great Guide use you as an influencer. Life is priceless, too valuable to waste doing anything but dispensing his love and mercy. Enjoy giving and be readily available to inspire hope.

In the evening, humbly review your failures and reflect on the promise of tomorrow. Preserve your memories and cherish them all, the harsh and the pleasant. When the new day arrives, draw on them as needed for wisdom and strength.

Finally, whenever the sky grows dark and cloudy, be the wanderer who looks for and finds a tiny piece of blue in the sky. There is joy in the sunrise, light along the road, and the sight of God at the journey’s end. Imagine how magnificent it will be when you finally meet Him!

Shalom,

Me
